Audi A6 Evolution 1968 to 2026. It Began as a Secret Audi 100

Volkswagen had told Audi not to develop a new car of its own. Ludwig Kraus and his engineers built the Audi 100 anyway, in secret, and in 1968 it went on sale. That car is where this Audi A6 evolution begins, 43 cars that cover every generation of the Audi 100 and the A6 up to the 2026 A6 e-tron. The Audi 100 saved Audi as a brand. By 1982 its third generation was one of the most aerodynamic saloons in the world, and a few years later the first S4 showed that a big Audi could also be fast. In 1994 the whole range was renamed, and the Audi 100 became the A6. From there the A6 grew into Audi's business class car, and every generation added an Avant estate.
